Bernie Hoenle
Bernie Hoenle and his wife Marcia first fell in love with Fountain Hills as many do…by driving over the hill on Shea Boulevard and becoming entranced! That was in 2013 and shortly after they moved to the community. Their first family Thanksgiving was on folding chairs prior to their furniture arriving from their home in Virginia.
Since then, the busy couple has set an active pace in their new hometown. Activities quickly filled the calendar including mentoring at McDowell Mountain Elementary, joining Noon Kiwanis (president, district Lt Governor, SWD Kiwanis Foundation Board) & working with the student Service Leadership Programs, member of the FH Strategic Planning Advisory Commission, riding a road bike, board member Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists, plus member of the AZ Alliance for Livable Communities. And finally back to performing music with the FH Community Band (treasurer), the AZ Wind Symphony, and most of all conducting a weekly brass clinic at the middle school!
But Bernie is no stranger to active life. He retired from the Air Force in 1999 where his career was in Command & Control, Communications & Computers. After that retirement, he began working on Y2K and his second corporate career with information technology as an account executive for the department of defense that included extensive travel. He is a graduate from the University of Arizona, with a Bachelors & Masters in Music & Education. Prior to his military career, he taught as a substitute teacher in Tucson in drafting, architectural, drawing and wood shop.
